FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Can I get help to put up for adoption or sending kittens of my community to the United States?
No. We only put for adoption our rescue kittens of the communities we work. Adoptions are extremely low in Puerto Rico and we do not give up our spaces for cats that have not being worked by us. We send kittens to the United States after 3-4 months of adoption failure. Shelters in the United States demand a strict veterinarian protocol for kittens that can run from $300-$500 each, plus all that is needed for the airfare: veterinarian check-up, flight certificate, air fare and any other cost that the airline requires.
2. I want a home for the cats/kittens in my community. What can I do?
TNR. Not all kittens/cats want a home. Just because a cat/kitten is friendly, doesn't mean it needs a home. A friendly cat/kitten that is used to its freedom, when is changed from environment gets sick. It'll stop eating, drinking, then they'll stop urinating causing kidney problems, to name the most common. A cat that wants its freedom will do the impossible to be freed, including peeing the house or break things.
3. I found some kittens in my community/house. What I can do? Can you catch them?
Use Kitten Lady's CASA method. You can see it here: http://www.kittenlady.org/casa
4. The cats in my community are in danger. They need to be moved. Where I can place them?
Nowhere, for the same reason previously explained. Also please read about the Vacuum Effect on our TNR section.
5. I rescued a cat(s)/kitten(s). Can you take them in?
No. WE ARE NOT A SHELTER, WE DO NOT TAKE CATS IN, WE DON'T FOSTER. We work from our homes only the areas that we impact. We are working toward having a sanctuary as we only work special needs cats. We don't rescue kittens.
6. I'm moving/divorcing. I can't take my cat. Can you take it in? I'll pay.
No. If you move, get divorced or any situation occurs, it's your duty and responsibility to take your cat, which is a responsibility exactly the same as a child. We only get involved in extraordinary cases and the cat has to be spay/neutered, negative 3dx and vaccinated up to date, and we always ask for a fee to be able to keep them.
7. I'm being legally accused for feeding street cats, what can I do?
No one can forbid you to feed and/or care for a cat or animal on the street. Law 154 of 2008 protects you. Anyone who tells you otherwise and incurs violence against the animal(s), can be prosecuted and fined. This includes the hiring of an exterminator to remove the cats.
Cats are not under the regulation of the use of pesticides and therefore, the exterminator and the inciter will incur in violations of law that can end in fines and from 2019, can incur in jail because animal abuse is now a federal crime.
8. Do you offer spay & neuter services?
Yes, if funds are available and through our main clinics. Visit our TNR section and choose the veterinarian closest to you if you want to do it on your own.
9. How long should I care for a TNR?
One day maximum. Please know that not all veterinarians in Puerto Rico have the training for TNR. The surgery is short and has a minimum scar and the cat has to have a left ear-tip. Visit our TNR section for the recommended TNR veterinarians.
